The City of Cactus has announced that they will be partnering with JBS in the construction and remodel of sports fields.
The City said it was recently awarded a grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife parks program in the amount of $400,000 for the construction of sand volleyball courts, a Sepak Takraw court, remodel of the existing baseball field, lighting and landscaping around the new amenities.
The City said the grant requires a one to one match by the grant recipient and JBS donated $200,000, under its Hometown Strong Initiative Program, to help the city meet the grant match of $400,000.
The baseball field and courts will be named JBS Field and JBS Sepak and Volleyball Courts.
The Dumas Police Department honored one of its fallen officers. The police department paid tribute to their own fallen officer, Chief Marvin Wayne Trejo.
Chief Trejo served the Dumas Police Department starting in 1994. The late Chief Trejo died one year ago from COVID-19.
The police department said 295 officers died in 2020, of those deaths, 182 were COVID related.
A Community Grant presentation will be presented to the YMCA for their Scoreboard Project completion. We will be presenting a check for $3,455.00 today at 10:00 a.m. in the gym at the YMCA, 1400 S. Maddox.
The Moore County burn ban has been lifted by the Commissioner’s Court.
