On June 20th, 2020 in the early and rainy morning hours at about 1:19am, then Officer O. Barba checked out with a suspicious person and discovered that the subject was intoxicated.

Officer Barba attempted to detain the subject, but they ran off.

Officer Barba gave chase and caught the suspect. The suspect resisted and assaulted Officer Barba. Officer I. Granda arrived and both Officers were able to take the suspect into custody.

This is when Officer Barba noticed he had something running down his face and that he could not open his eye. It was discovered that Officer Barba had been stabbed in the head, neck, and arm.

Yesterday, Sergeant Barba was awarded with the Combat Cross for surviving a deadly encounter.

The Amarillo Public Health Department is reporting 57 new cases of COVID-19, 4 deaths and 5 recoveries in the Amarillo area.

APH said Potter County has 21 new cases, 2 new deaths.

In Randall County, 36 new cases were reported along with 2 new deaths and 5 recoveries.

The Amarillo Area Hospitalization Rate is at 2.87%.
